abstractIn this paper, a new Amblyomma tick collected on an undetermined snake from Hainan Island, China is described.
Amblyomma hainanense sp. nov.
This new species resembles A. javanense (Supino) in female, but its size is smaller, the punctations on scutum are less in number, the cervical grooves are comparatively longer, and the external spurs on coxae I-IV are narrower and more pointed. This new species is also similar to A. laticaudae Warburton in female, but its cervical grooves are broader and shorter, the external spurs on coxae I-IV are more developed, and the spiracular plates are different in shape.
Holotype ♀ and paratype 1♀ were collected off a snake from Hainan Island, Guangdong Province, China in May 1974. Type specimens are deposited in the Institute of Zoology, Academia Sinica.
