abstractLeptotrombidium (Leptotrombidium) laxoscutum, sp. nov. (figs. 1-4)
Idiosoma oval, measuring 410-533×246-344µ. Galeal setae plumose. Palpal setae formula N-N-BNN+7B, palpal claws 3-forked. Scutum broader than long, nearly rectangular, coarsely punctate, ratio of SD to PW about 1:2. PL longer than AM and AL, scutal setae plumose and longer, SB and PL at the same level. Sensillae filamentous, basal 1/3 minute spines, distal 2/3 bearing 8-10 lateral branches. Standard measurements (in µ): AW 84, SB 39, ASB 27, PSB 15, AP 24, AM 48, AL 39, PL 73, Sens 68. Dorsal setae 32-34, plumose and longer, arranged as 2-8-6-6-(6-4)-4-2. Sternal setae 2-2. Ventral setae 29-32. Leg sements 7-7-7. Coxal setae 1-1-1.
Holotype and 5 paratypes collected from the wing of bats (Pipistrellus abramus) in March, 1957 in Jinan, Shandong Province and deposited in the Department of Parasitology, Chinese Traditional Medicine College of Shandong.
This new species is very similar to Leptotrombidium (L.) kitasatoi Fukuzumi et Obata, 1950, but it is distinguishable chiefly by (1) the standard measurements of AW and PW, (2) the shape of scutum, (3) the number of dorsal and ventral setae.
