Generic diagnosis: Laelaptidae. Medium mites with rather long body. Gnathosoma and legs heavily sclerotized; idiosoma weakly sclerotized, with fine; sparse setation. Genitoventral plate linguiform, with 4 pairs of setae. Peritreme short. On the genua and tibiae of legs I, II and the femora of leg I, each bearing a protuberance, and with a long seta by its side.
Type species: Tylolaelaps rhizomydis, sp. nov.
Tylolaelaps rhizomydis Ku et Wang, sp. nov.
Female (Figs. 1-5): Idiosoma rather long, 648-696µ in length and 298-355µ in width. Both gnathosoma and legs strongly sclerotized, yellowish-brown in colour, while the yellowish idiosoma weakly sclerotized, and sparsely covered with fine setae. Dorsal plate 576-624µ long and 239-296µ wide, bearing 32 pairs of minute setae, M11 being the longest, measuring 58µ, S8 9.8µ in length. Sternal plate broadly hexagonal, 210-284µ in width, 127-157µ in length, with its anterior margin slightly convex and posterior margin deeply coneave. Genitoventral plate linguiform, slightly expanded at level of VI2. All the sternal setae and the 4 pairs of genitventral setae long and slender. Anal plate gourd-like in shape. Peritreme short, extending barely posterior to the middle of coxae II. Pilus dentili bulb-like, 12×7.2µ. Coxae with spurs as: 2-1-1-0, with the inner one on coxa I much larger. On the genua and tibiae of legs I, II and the femora of leg I, each bearing a sclerotized protuberance, and a long seta beside it. The apex of the protuberance on the genua and tibiae of legs I divided into two equal halves.
Holotype (♀) and paratypes (5♀♀) were collected off Rhizomus pruinosus latouchei Thomas, from Nanning, Guangxi, in July 1975, and from Luodian, Guizhou, in August 1976. All type specimens are deposited in the Department of Parasitology, Guiyang Medical College, Guizhou, China. |
