| abstract | During November 1975 and summer of 1976, Typhlomys cinereus chapensis Osgood, 1932 from Suiyang xian, Guizhou Province were examined for ectoparasites, and numerous gamasoid mites were collected. Altogether 5 species of mites were identified. They belong to 4 genera in 2 families. Among them one species is found new to science and a new genus is erected for it. These mites are: (1) Haemogamasus monticola Wang et Li, (2) Laelaps turkestanicus Lange, (3) Echinolaelaps echidninus (Berlese), (4) Echinolaelaps fukienensis Wang, (5) Sinolaelaps typhlomydis, gen. et sp. nov.
Shinolaelaps [sic], gen nov.
Diagnosis: Laelaptidae. Female, medium-sized mite, subcircular in shape. Genito-ventral plate expanded behind coxae IV, with 4 pairs of ventral setae, the second spur-like. Anal plate bearing a butterfly-shaped densely chitinous area. Tarsi of all legs ornamented with 2 chitinous plates, and femur I also with one.
Type species: Sinolaelaps typhlomydis, sp. nov.
Sinolaplaps typhlomydis, sp. nov.
Female: Body measuring 667-750×517-592µ. Scutum covering almost all of dorsum, bearing 38 pairs of setae. Sternal plate wider than long, with anterior margin slightly convex and posterior margin concave. Genitoventral plate rather broad with its central portion more sclerotized, expanded behind coxae IV, with 4 pairs of ventral setae, IV2 spur-like, measuring 37-57µ. On the posterior expanding part of genitoventral plate, with 6 transverse lines. Anal plate cup shaped, on its anterior part with a butterfly-shaped densely chitinous area. Chelicera slender, weakly sclerotized; chela short, with a rather large pilus dentilis and a cluster of setae on base of digitus mobilis. On the anterior side of each tarsus, with 2 chitinous plates, and on the lateral margin of femur I with one.
Deutonymph: Body oval, measuring 608-633×400µ. Dorsal plate bearing 38 pairs of setae. Sternal plate linguiform, with 4 pairs of setae, without any spur-like setae on the body, chitinous plates lacking on legs, and anal plate without densely chitinous area. In the dorsum of femur I, with a pair of long setae.
Holotype ♀ and paratypes (34♀♀ and 2 deutonymphs) were collected off Typhlomys cinereus chapensis Osgood, in November 1975 and June, July 1976, from Suiyang Xian, Guizhou Province. All type materials are deposited in the Department of Parasitology, Guiyang Medical College. |
