abstractIn the present paper, five laelapid mites are reported. Among them three species are described as new to science and two are recorded for the first time in China. All type specimens of the new species are deposited in the Institute of Zoology, Academia Sinica.
Hypoaspis (Geolaelaps) concinna, sp.nov. (figs. 1-3)
This new species is allied to Hypoaspis (Geolaelaps) elegantula (Berlese), but in its female, the setae on dorsal plate are comparatively longer and there is an accessory seta between D7 and D8 on the plate, and the shape of genito-ventral plate is also different, being broadest at the middle portion and narrow at the posterior end.
Holotype ♀, from a nest of Cricetus triton de Winton, Beijing, July 1964; paratypes 3♀♀, same as for holotype.
Hypoaspis (Geolaelaps) aculeiferoides, sp.nov.(figs. 4-6)
It is closely related to H. (G.) aculeifer (Canestrini), but in its female, the setae of dorsal plate are subequal in length and a single aecessory seta is present between D6 and D7. The first pair of sternal setae lie in the presternal area, and the first pair of lyriform pores are situated on the anterior margin of sternal plate. The metapodal plates are relatively larger and kidney in shape.
Holotype ♀, from a nest of Citellus dauricus Brandt, Beijing, June 1964; paratype 1♀, same as for holotype.
Hypoaspis (Geolaelaps) praesternalis Willmann
New record from China. 1♀, from Apodemus agrarius Pallas, Heilongjiang Province, July 1970.
Cosmolaelaps acutiscutus, sp. nov. (figs.7-10)
It is similar to Cosmolaelaps vacuus (Michael), but in its female, the posterior end of dorsal plate narrow and pointed. Thirty-eight pairs of setae and 2 unpaired accessory setae are present on the plate. The lateral margins of sternal plate are curved inward in the shape of a cave, anterior to the second pair of sternal setae. The third pair of lyriform pores are situated on the posterior margin of sternal plate.
Holotype ♀, from a beetle, Jiangsu Province, May 1977; paratype 1♀, same as for holotype.
Cosmolaelaps vacuus (Michael)
New record from China. 8♀♀, from Cricetulus barabensis Pallas and Apodemus agrarius Pallas, Heilongjiang Province, August and September 1970.
