| abstract | The present paper reports a new species of chigger mite from Jiangxi Province.
Leptotrombidium (Leptotrombidium) filasensillum, sp. nov. (figs. 1-6)
Body oval in shape. Engorged specimens measuring 415-594×318-493µ, unengorged 202-279×164-256µ. Galeal setae plumose. SIF=7B-B-3-2111-0000. Palpal setal formula N/N/B.N.N. Sensilla filiform, without branches. Scutum punctate, nearly trapezoid in shape, PW/A-P=2.4. PL>AM≥AL. Standard measurements (in micron) in average of 12 specimens given in table 1. Eyes 2+2, equal in size. Dorsal setae 28-30, arranged as 2-8-6-6-4-2. Ventral setae 26-32. Sternal setae 2/2. Coxal setae 1-1-1. Leg: I. 264µ, II. 238µ, III. 267µ. IP. 769.
Holotype and 12 paratypes, larvae, were collected from ears of Rattus fulvescens, Rattus losae and Apodemus agrarius in September 1978 from Xiushui County, Jiangxi Province. The type specimens are deposited in the Department of Parasitology, Jiangxi Medical College, Nanchang.
This new species is the only species in the subgenus Leptotrombidium having fi1iform sensilla. It is similar to Leptotrombidium (Leptotrombidium) imphalum imphalum Vercammen-Grandjean et Langston, 1976, but the latter has 19-21 branched sensillae on their apices, and shows much higher standard measurements and ratio of PW to A-P. |
