| abstract | The present paper gives descriptions of two new species of chigger mites parasitic on rodents and insectivora from Yunnan Province. The type specimens are deposited in the Control and Research Institute of Epidemic Diseases of Yunnan Province.
Gahrliepia (Gahrliepia) silvatica, sp. nov. (figs. 1-4)
Idiosoma of partly engorged larvae 292-307×221-232µ. Scutum nearly elongate hexagonal in shape, with 2 kinds of punctae. Scutal setae 10-13 in number. Sensillae club-shaped. Galeal setae nude. Palpal setae B-B-NNN, palpal claws 3-forked. Dorsal setae 30-38 in number, arranged as 2-4-6-8-6-6-4-2=38 (Holotype). Ventral setae 56-66 in number. Measurements: see Chinese text.
Holotype and 7 paratypes, larvae, ex Anourosorex squamipes, from Yuanyang County, Yunnan, VI 10, 1977.
The new species is close to G. (G.) tylana Traub et Morrow, 1955, but differing as follows: (1) humeral setae a pair, not two pairs; (2) dorsal setae 30-38 in number, not 42-46. It is also close to G. (G.) pintanensis Wang, 1962, but it has two kinds of punctae on scutum, its scutum is smaller in size, and the last pair of PPLS does not lie on the posterior margin of scutum.
Gahrliepia (Gahrliepia) deqinensis sp. nov. (figs. 5-9)
Idiosoma of unengorged larvae,235-240×178-190µ. Scutum nearly elongate hexagonal in shape, with fine punctations and transversely arranged small rod-like scrobiculi. Scutal setae 17 in number. Sensillae club-shaped. Galeal setae nude. Palpal setae B-N-NNN, palpal claws 3-forked. Dorsal setae 39-44 in number, arranged as 2-6-10-4-8-8-4-2=44 (Holotype). Ventral setae 66-77 in number. The new species is close to G. (G.) kiangsiensis Hsu et al., 1965, but the setae on its scutum, and its dorsal and ventral setae are different in shape and more in number (as figured). |
