| abstract | This paper deals with 11 phytoseiid mites in the finlandicus group of the genus Amblyseius Berlese, seven of which, A. similiovalis, A. longicervix, A. sacchari, A. vulgaris, A. longiverticalis, A. querci and A. utilis are new to science, and two of which, A. finlandicus and A. aizawaii are recorded for the first time from this country.
The dorsal setae nomenclature is based on the system of Rowell et al. (1978). All type materials are deposited in the Department of Biology, Fudan University, Shanghai.
The new species are briefly diagnosed as follows:
1. Amblyseim similiovalis, sp. nov. (fig. 1)
This species closely resembles A. ovalis (Evans), but differs from that species in the shape of spermatheca.
Holotype: ♀, Jinghong, Yunnan, 18-VII-1980, on Robinia pseudoacacia. Paratypest 6♀♀ 1♂, Jinghong, Yunnan, 18-19-VII-1980, on Ficus elastica and Litchi chinensis; 3♀♀, Daluo, Yunnan, 25-XI-1980, on Hevea guyanensis.
2. Amblyseius longicervix, sp. nov. (fig. 2)
This species resembles A. kodaikanalensis (Gupta, 1978), but differs from that species in the ratio of setae j1 and j3, in the shape of ventrianal shield, and in having barbed seta Z5. It also resembles A. talinga (Pritchard et Baker, 1962), but differs from that species in having setae jl longer than seta S2.
Holotype: ♀, Jinghong, Yunnan, 19-VII-1980, on Citrus grandis. Paratypes: 5♀♀ 2♂♂, data same as for holotype; 1♀, Jinghong, Yunnan, 18-VII-1980, on Hevea guyanensis.
3. Amblyseim sacchari, sp. nov. (fig. 3)
This species resembles A. elinae Schicha, 1977 and A. rhododendronsis Gupta, 1970, but it can be separated from the latter two by the shorter seta j3, being much shorter than j1, and by the shape of the spermatheca. Besides, it differs from A. rhododendronsis in the shape of the macrosetae on leg IV.
Holotype: ♀, Longxi, Fujian, 16-VlI-1979, on Saccharum officinarum. Paratypes: 3♀♀ Hepu, Guangxi, 29-VII-1980, on Saccharum officinarum.
4. Amblyseim vulgaris, sp. nov. (fig. 4)
This species is similar to A. nicholsi Ehara et Lee, 1971, but it differs from that species in the shape of the spermatheca, the cervix of which is sausage-shaped.
Holotype: ♀, Simao, Yunnan, 16-VII-1980, on Quercus acutissima. Paratypes: 1♀ Fengqing, Yunnan, 12-VII-1980, on an unknown plant; 2♀♀ 1♂, Simao, Yunnan, 16 -VII-1980, on a species of Compositae; 2♀♀ Yangwu, Yunnan, 29-VII-1980, on an unknown plant; 4♀♀, Menghai, Yunnan, 22,23-VII-1980, on an unknown plant; 1♀, Kejie, Yunnan, 12-VII-1980, on Aleurites fordii; 1♀ Kunming, Yunnan, 20-VI-1980, on Prunus mume.
5. Amblyseius longiverticalis, sp. nov. (fig. 5)
This species resembles A. okumae Ehara, 1977, but it can be separated from that species by having seta j1 as long as s4, and by the different shape of spermatheca. This new species is also similar to A. raptor Merwe et Ryke, 1964, but differs from that species in having the setae S5 and j3 with equal length.
Holotype: ♀, Shidian, Yunnan, 4-VII-1980, on an unknown plant. Paratypes: 2♀♀ data same as for holotype; 1♀, Kunming, Yunnan, 20-VI-1980, on Populus yunnanensis; 1♀, Lijiang; Yunnan, 26-VI-1980, on Clematis florida.
6. Amblyseius querci, sp. nov. (fig. 6)
This species closely resembles A. finlandicus (Oudemans), but it can be separated by the shape of spermatheca and the ratio of setae j1 and j4.
Holotype: ♀, Changbaishan, Jilin, 1-VIII-1980, on Quercus acutissima. Paratypes: 1♀ 1♂, collected with the holotype.
7. Amblyseius ulilis, sp. nov. (fig. 7)
This species is similar to A. finlandicus and A. querci sp. nov., but differs from both in the shape of spermatheca. Besides, it differs from A. finlandicus in the ratio of the setae j1 and j4, and from A. guerci in the ratio of the setae S4 and Z5.
Holotype: ♀ Beijing, 7-VII-1980, on Malus pumila. Paratypes: 3♀♀ 4♂♂, Beijing, 1-V11-9-X-1980, on Malus pumila. |
