abstractThis paper reports two new species of Schizotetranychus collected from Sichuan Province, China. Type specimens are deposited in the Institute of Zoology, Academia Sinica.
Schizotetranychus emeiensis, sp. nov. (figs. 1-10)
Female: Length (including rostrum) 273 µ, width 107 µ. Pale yellow in colour.
Palpus with terminal sensillum one and a half times as long as wide; dorsal sensillum tiny, about half as long as terminal one. Peritreme dilated distaliy.
Empodium split and claw-like. Setae on segments of legs I-IV as follows: coxae 2,2,1,1; trochanters 1 in each; femora 8,8,4,3; genus 5,5,3,3; tibiae 12,7,6,7(6); tarsi 19,16,11,11.
Male: Length (including rostrum) 242 µ.
Palpus with terminal sensillum twice as long as wide; dorsal sensillum tiny.
Except for femora I-IV with setae 10,7,3,3, the number of setae on other segments of legs same as in female.
Aedeagus bent ventrad and gradually narrowed to form a small hook curved dorsad in the distal part.
Holotype ♂, allotype ♀ and paratypes 19♀♀ 9♂♂, VI.5. 1979, Emei Mountain, Sichuan, on bamboo.
This new species differs from all other known species of this genus in the shape of aede-agus.
Schizotetranychus imperatae, sp. nov. (figs. 11-21)
Female: Length (including rostrum) 366 µ, width 167 ♂. Pale yellow in colour.
Terminal sensillum of palpus twice as long as wide; dorsal sensillum of palpus shorter than terminal one. Peritreme shortly hooked distally.
Empodium split and claw-like, with a pair of fine dorsal hairs. Setae on segments of legs I-IV as follows: coxae 2,2,1,1; trochanters 1 in each; femora 9(10),6,4,3; genus 5,5,4,4; tibiae 10,8,6,7; tarsi 18,16,11,11.
Male: Length (including rostrum) 226 µ.
Palpus with terminal sensillum conical in shape and its length equal to width at the base; dorsal sensillum clavate in shape and three times as long as the terminal one.
Tarsus I with 20 setae; tibia I with 9 tactile setae and 4 solenidion; tarsus II with 16 setae. Except for these, the number of setae on other segments of legs same as in female.
Aedeagus gradually narrowed and extended backward with an angle on dorsum, the end of aedeagus directed ventrad.
Holotype ♂, allotype ♀ and paratypes 3♀♀ 2♂♂, VI. 8. 1979, Emei Mountain, Sichuan. Other paratypes including 3♀♀ 1♂ V. 18. 1979, Qingcheng Mountain, Sichuan. All collected on Imperata sp.
This new species resembles S. cercidiphylli Ehara (1973), but differs from the latter in the terminal part of aedeagus being shorter and directed ventrad, and in the tarsus I with only 4 tactile setae.
