abstractThis paper describes and illustrates the male, female and larva of a new species of the genus Steneotarsonemus Beer in China. All type specimens are deposited in the Department of Biology, Fudan University, Shanghai, China.
Steneotarsonemus zhejiangensis, sp. nov
The adult of both sexes and larva of the new species are similar to those of S., konoi Smiley et Emmanouel 1980, but are distinguished from the latter in the following respects:
Male (figs. 1-4): Prodorsal shield subtrapezoid, with its anterior margin in the shape of a trident; dorsal propodosomal setae Sc1 and Sc2 equal in length. V1 longer than V2, all setae somewhat dagger-shaped; femorogenu of leg VI with a large, serrate inner median lateral flange; posterior inner seta 46.9µ long, dagger-shaped; venter of body unornamented.
Female (figs. 5-8): Tergite II with two sharp-angled pores, posterior median apodeme short, ventro-caudal lobe between legs VI longer than wide.
Female larva (figs. 11-12): Distance between the dorsal propodosomal setae V1 and Sc2 distinctly longer than that in S. konoi; tergite III setae smooth; ventral hysterosomal shield with fine striae.
Male larva of S. konoi has not been reported on, no comparison can be made.
Holotype ♂, allotype ♀, and paratypes 10♂♂ 15♀♀ and 3 larvae were found within the sheath of rice in Jiashan County, Zhejiang, on Nov. 13, 1982 by Gu Tong-hua.
