| abstract | While examining the mites collected off rodents from Guizhou Province, we came across a new species of the genus Gamasholaspis Berlese, which is described and figured.
Gamasholaspis eothenomydis, sp. nov.
This new species resembles Gamasholaspis gamasoides, but differs from the latter in 1) ventrianal plate wider than long, and slightly concave anterolaterally to receive the posterior margin of podal-peritremal plate; that of G. gamasoides longer than wide and convex anterolaterally; 2) podal-peritremal plate with round posterior margin, conforming to anterior margin of ventrianal plate; that of G gamasoides protruded posteriorly, its tip reaching, the level of first pair of preanal setae; 3) dorsal plate rounded anteriorly; that of G. gamasoides truncated; 4) the unarmed venter with two less pairs of setae than in G. gamasoides.
Holotype female was collected off Eothenomys melanogaster Milne-Edwards, on Nov. 15, 1976, from Suiyang County (28° N,107.1° E), Guizhou Province. Type specimen is deposited in the Department of Parasitology, Guiyang Medical College. |
