abstractThe present paper deals with three species of the genus Spinturnix collected from China. Among them Spinturnix sinicus and S. brevisetosus are described as new to science, and S. myoti (Kolenati) is recorded for the first time from this country. The types of the two new species are deposited in the Department of Parasitology, Guiyang Medical College, Guizhou Province. A key to the Chinese known species of the genus Spinturnix is appended.
Spinturnix sinicus, sp. nov.
Female (figs. 1-2) Length 725µ, width 566µ. Dorsal plate with 11 pairs of small pores. Five pairs of propodosomal setae, the distance between 2nd and 3rd pairs long. Venter of palpfemur bearing a heavy seta with minute spines, palptrochanter with a short heavy seta also.
Tritosternum very small or absent. Sternal plate with 3 pairs of marginal setae and two pairs of pores. Epigynial plate agaric-shaped, with a pair of minute setae. Anal plate subcircular, Ad subequal to PA. Coxae of legs with incomplete lines marking ventral surface. Broad lanceolate dorsal setae at distal tips of tarsi II, III, IV.
Male (figs. 3-4) 593µ long by 514µ wide. Dorsum with 3 pairs of long setae between peritremes and posterior margin of body. Tritosternum absent. Sternogenital plate with narrow anterior apex and rounded posterior portion; 3 pairs of marginal setae and 2 pairs of pores 8 pairs of setae on integument between coxae IV. Legs as in female.
Holotype ♀, allotype ♂, and paratypes 8♀♀ 19♂♂ and 5 nymphs were collected off Ia longimana Pen in Aug-Sep., 1977, from Zhijin County, 105°46ʼ E, 26°40ʼ N, Guizhou Province; the other 9♀♀ 2♂♂ and 3 nymphs were collected on 4 Sep. 1981, from Ziyun County, 106°5ʼ E, 25°45ʼ N.
This species resembles Spinturnix psi (Kolenati), but with smaller body, no radiant markings around dorsal plate, the 1st and 2nd pairs of propodosomal setae nearby, fewer dorsal opisthosomal setae, male sternogenital plate of different shape.
Spinturnix brevisetosus, sp. nov.
Female (figs. 5-6) Length 1059µ, width 821µ. Dorsal plate with 12 pairs of pores. Five pairs of propodosomal setae minute. One or two long setae between peritremes and posterior margin of body. Posterior margin of sternal plate broadly round or concave, 3 pairs of minute setae set off plate. Epigynial plate lingual, the pair of short genital setae free from plate. Anal plate small, Ad in different level, longer than PA. About 11-12 setae on integument between epigynial and anal plates.
Male (figs. 7-8) 787µ long by 658µ wide. Dorsum as in female. Sternogenital plate bottle-shaped, with 3 pairs of short marginal setae and 2 pairs of pores. About 16 setae on ventral integument.
Holotype ♀, allotype ♂, and paratypes 9♀♀ 5♂♂ and 6 nymphs were collected off bats, on 2 Aug. 1963, from Congjiang County, 109°5ʼ E, 25°56ʼ N, Guizhou Province; the other 2♂♂ were collected on 3 May 1964, from Xingyi County, 104°45ʼ E, 25°9ʼ N.
Spinturnix myoti (Kolenati, 1856)
First record in China. Specimens were collected off Myoti myoti chinensis (Tomes), from Guizhou Province: 52♀♀ 41♂♂ and 60 nymphs, 8-VIII-1977, Xingyi County, 104°45ʼ E, 25°9ʼ N; 1♀ 3♂♂ 6-7-IX-1979, Qingzhen County 106°28ʼ E 26°33ʼ N; 1♂ 4-IX-1981, Ziyun County, 106°5ʼ E, 25°45ʼ N.
