Generic diagnosis: Laelaptidee. Medinm, mites. Dorsal plate bearing 50 or more pairs of fine setae. Hypostomal process with fringed branches. Sternal plate wider than long. Female genitoventral plate bearing 1 pair of setae. Metapodal plate slender, rodlike. Peritrematal plate with 2 leaf-like expansions in the middle. All the coxae of legs without spur, dorsal setae of femur I short and heavy.
Type species: Qinghailaelaps marmotae, sp. nov.
Qinghailaelaps marmotae, sp. nov.
Female (figs. 1-8): Oval idiosoma with frontal process, 858µ, in length and 620µ in width. Dorsal plate 806+837µ long and 599-610µ, wide, bearing 50 or more pairs of fine setae, many accessory setae irregularly studded on the hind-middle portion of the plate. Cervical plate rhomboid. Sternal plate wider than long, with 3 pairs of setae and 2 pairs of lyriform organs. Genitoventral plate somewhat expanded behind coxae IV, bearing 1 pair of setae. Anal plate triangular, Ad longer than PA. Metapodal plate slender rodlike. Peritreme ending in anterior portion of coxa I; peritrematal plate reaching to the base of frontal process, and with 2 expansions between coxae I and II as well as between coxae II and III. All the coxae of legs without spur, the dorsal setae of femur I short, thornlike.
Holotype female and paratype one female were collected off Marmota himalayana Hodgson on June 11, 1982 from Henan Mongol Autonomous County, 34°46ʼ N, 101°30ʼ E, Huangnan Zang Autonomous Prefecture, Qinghai Province. Holotype and paratype specimens are deposited in the Research Institute of Endemic Disease Control, Qinghai Province and the Department of Parasitology, Guiyang Medical College respectively.
