abstractThis paper reports a new species of trombiculid mite belonging to subgenus Plumosicola, of the genus Trombiculindus Radford, 1948 from Fujian Province. The type specimens are deposited in the Fujian Research Institute of Epidemic Diseases.
Trombiculindus (Plumosicola) stenosetosus sp. nov.
Body white in color when alive. Length 608-612µ, width 437-460µ. Galeal setae branched. Palpal setae formula N-N-BBB/7B. Palpal claw 3-pronged. Eyes 2+2 on ocular plates. Scutum rectangular in shape. PL slender, narrow leaf-like. Dorsal setae 28(25) in number, arranged 2-8(9)-6(4)-6-4-2(0). Ventral setae 29-37 in number. Setae on coxae III situated beneath the frontal margin. Standard measurements: Holotype AW 70 PW 87 SB 37 ASB 34 PSB 10 A-P 29 AM 49 AL 45 PL 70×4 Sens 70.
Holotype larva and 3 paratypes collected off Rattus fulvescens huang in Oct. 1982 from Jian’ou County (26.7°N, 118.3°E), Fujian.
The PL and dorsal setae of this new species are very slender, narrow leaf-like and palpal setae formula N-N-BBB. These features are entirely different from the other species of the subgenus Plumosicola.
