abstractTwo new species of trombiculid mites collected from Guzhang County (28°38ʼN, 109°56ʼE), Hunan Province, are described as follows:
Leptotrombidium (L.) guzhangensis sp. nov. (figs. 1-4)
Body oval. Galeal seta branched. Formula of palpal setation N-N-BNN/7B. Palpal claw with three prongs. Scutum punctate. Sensillae filiform, with 11-13 branches on the distal 2/3, and with weak spieules near its base. Eyes 2×2. AW 54, PW 60, SB 22, ASB 11, PSB 11, AP 21, AM 39, AL 36, PL 51, Sens. 47. Dorsal setae 28 in number, arranged as 2-8-6-6-4-2. Ventral setae 28 in number. Leg I 217-232µ, leg II 206µ, leg III 225-240µ. Ip=648-678 . SIF=7B-B-3-2111.0000.
Holotype and 3 paratypes larvae collected off Apodemus agrarius, Sept. 2, 1982. Holotype and 1 paratype deposited in the Department of Parasitology, Fujian Medical College; 2 paratypes deposited in the second author’s collection.
This new species is similar to L, (L.) arenicola Traub, 1960 and L. (L.) vivericola Vercammen-Grandjean et Langston, 1976, but separable with more ventral setae and smaller SB and AP.
Trombiculindus (T.) spinifoliatus sp. nov. (figs. 5-8)
Body oval. Galeal seta branched. Formula of palpal setation N-N-BNN(b)/7B, the left ventral seta of palpal tibia nude and the right one with a minute branch. Palpal claw with three prongs. Scutum punctate. PLs/SB. Eyes 2×2. PL bamboo-leaf-shaped, with conspicuous spinlets on distal half. AW 70, PW 78, SB 44, ASB 22, PSB 16, AP 17, AM 52, AL -, PL 68x11, Sens. -. Dorsal setae 30 in number, arranged as 2-8-6-6-4-2-2. Ventral setae 28 in number. Leg I 224µ, leg II 205µ, leg III 235µ. IP=664. SIF=7B-B-3-2111.0000.
Holotype larva collected off Apodemus agrarius, Aug. 1982, deposited in the Department of Parasitology, Fujian Medical College.
This species is similar to T. (T.) armatus Traub et al, 1968 and T.(T.) bambusoides Wang et Yu, 1965, but fp=N-N-BNN PW/AP=4.9, SD/AP=2.4. Besides, PL is different from T. bambusoides in having conspicuous spinlets and more ventral setae.
