abstractThe present paper deals with 9 species of Haemogamasidae belonging to the genera Haemogamasus and Eulaelaps collected off rodents from Qinghai Province. Among them 3 species are new to science and characterized as follows. The type specimens are deposited in the Research Institute of Endemic Disease Control, Qinghai Province and the Department of Parasitology, Guiyang Medical College.
1. Haemogamasus qinghaiensis sp. nov. (figs. 1-7)
This new species is similar to Haemogamasus tangkeensis Zhou, but may be differenciated as follows:
-setae on dorsal plate: 6 longer setae (tangkeensis); only 2 longer setae (F1) (qinghaiensis)
-lyriform organ on sternal plate: 3 pairs (tangkeensis); 2 pairs (qinghaiensis)
-accessory setae on genitoventral plate: about 48 (tangkeensis); about 93 (qinghaiensis)
-pilus dentilis: hair-like (tangkeensis); tape-like, with round end (qinghaiensis)
-tectum: extensions fewer (tangkeensis); extensions very dense (qinghaiensis)
-legs: leg I longer than leg IV (tangkeensis); leg IV longer than leg I (qinghaiensis)
Holotype female, paratypes 4 females were collected off Myospalax baileyi Thomas, on Aug. 14, 1982 from Henan Mongol Autonomous County, Huangnan Zang Autonomous Prefecture, Qinghai Province, 34°46’N, 101°30’B.
2. Eulaelaps heptacanthus sp. nov. (figs. 8-13)
This new species resembles Eulaelaps novus Vitzthum, but characterized by 7 spines on tarsus II. Besides, the number of setae on genitoventral plate is 20 less than in E. novus; the venter between genitoventral plate and metapodal plate is provided with 3-4 pairs of setae, which are lacking in E. novus; peritreme extends to the middle of coxa I, while that of E. novus extends to coxa II; the distance between genitoventral plate and anal plate is subequal to the diameter of anus, but that is very short in E. novus.
Holotype female, paratypes 2 females were collected off Meriones meridianus Pallas on Sep. 4, 1975 from Ulan County, Haixi Mongol-Zang-Kazak Autonomous Prefecture, Qinghai, 36°50’N, 98°21’E.
3. Eulaelaps huzhuensis sp. nov. (figs. 14-18)
This new species closely resembles Eulaelaps shanghaiensis Wen, but differs from the latter in: 1) dorsal plate bearing about 177 smooth setae, while in the latter about 400 setae, the posterior ones with 2-3 spinelets; 2) posterior margin of sternal plate more concave than in the latter; 3) peritremal plate narrower, about 55 µ in width, with 2 longitudinal curved lines extending from stigma to posterior margin of the plate and lyriform organ larger, while that of E. shanghaiensis broader, 70 µ in width, with 4 longitudinal curved lines and lyriform organ smaller.
Holotype female was collected off Apodemus speciosus Temminck, on Nov. 1,1982 from Huzhu Tu Autonomous County, Qinghai, 36°48’N, 102°28’E; paratypes 7 females were collected on same day, off Pteromys volans Linneus from same County; another female was collected off Cricetulus longicaudatus Milne-Edwards from Huangzhong County, Qinghai, 36°27’N, 102°30’E.
