| abstract | Demodex neoopisthosomae sp. nov. and D. spelaea sp. nov. are described from the Meibomian glands of Eonycteris spelaea taken in Peninsular Malaysia. This is the first reported instance of two demodicids infesting exclusively the Meibomian glands of a single host species. The opisthosoma of adult D. neoopisthosomae develops within a large protrusion of the ventral body wall of the nymph. The nymphal opisthosoma persists in the adult as a fingerlike projection on the dorsum of the opisthosoma. |
