abstractThe most interesting species belonging to the family Phthiracaridae Perty, 1841, collected in several ecosystems of Vizcaya and its limit with Burgos and Alava, are recorded. Phthiracarus paraligneus is proposed as a new species for science. Steganacarus navarrensis Moraza is incorporated in the genus Atropacarus Ewing. Phthiracarus cf. laevigatus (C. L. Koch), Steganacarus anomalus (Berlese) and S. herculeanus Wilmann, are firstly recorded in the Iberian Peninsula. A small diagnosis is given for the species in the Iberian Peninsula. A small diagnosis is given for the species that are the first record or controversial. Also, differences with literature, biometrical data and interesting aspects about distribution and biology are given.
