| abstract | Eutrombicula (Siseca) wuyiensis sp. nov. (figs. 1-4)
Idiosoma elliptical in shape, orange in colour when alive, measuring 312-528 × 248-420 µm. Galeal setae nude. Palpal setal formula B-B-N-N-N, palpal claw 2-forked. Scutum almost square, sensillary bases placed nearer to AL than PL and widely separated, PL>AM>AL. Sensillae filamentous, distal 1/3 bearing 5-6 lateral branches. Standard measurements of scutum of holotye (in µm) : AW 77, PW 88, SB 53, ASB 27, PSB 53, AP 40, AM 53, AL 32, PL 72, S 67. Eyes 2+2, with ocular plate. Dorsal setae 22-24. Ventral setae 18-22. Coxal setae 1-1-1. Length of legs: I. 318-360, II. 297-329, III. 329-371 µm. Specialized setae of legs as in fig. 4.
Holotype and 12 paratypes, larvae, were collected from the birds (Turdus merula and Phoenicurus aurorens), in July 1980, from Qianshan County (Mt. Wuyishan, 27°46’-27°53’N, 117°42’-117°46’E), Jiangxi Province. All the specimens are deposited in the Department of Parasitology, Jiangxi Medical College.
This new species is similar to Trombicula rara Walchia, 1923 and Eutrombicula (Siseca) hubeica Xu, 1982, but can be distinguished from them by the following features: 1. Scutal setae of Trombicula rara are PL>AM>AL, palpal formula B-N-N-N-N, ASB is smaller (ASB 19.8 µm). 2. Standard measurements of scutum of Eutrombicula (Siseca) hubeica are greater, PL>AM>AL, palpal formula B-N-N-N-N, without long subbasal nude setae on tarsi III. |
