abstractThe present paper gives descriptions of five new species of chigger mites parasitic on rodents and insectivora from western part of Yunnan Province. Type specimens are desposited in the Control and Research Institute of Epidemic Diseases of Yunnan Province.
Gahrliepia (Gahrliepia) longipedalis sp. nov. (figs. 1-4)
Host: Rattus coxingi andersoni.
Parasitope: Out ear.
Locality: Dali County (25°41’N, 100°08’E), Yunnan, 1976. V. 8.
Description and measurements: See text.
Diagnosis: The new species is allied to G. (G.) yunnanensis Hsu et al., 1965, but is easily distinguished by the following characters: (1) scutum larger, PW >100µ, not <80µ; SD >90µ, not <150µ. (2) legs longer, IP >900, not <700. (3) big punctae in anterior and behind of SB of seutum, not only behind line of SB.
Odontacarus (Odontacarus) tetrasetosus sp. nov. (figs. 5-9)
Host: Rattus rattus sladeni.
Parasitope: Out ear.
Locality. Yualong County (25°34’N, 99°19’E), Yunnan; 1979. IV. 18.
Description and measurements: See text.
Diagnosis: The new species is close to O. (O.) sichuanensis Zhou et al, 1981, but differs in: (1) sternal setae two pairs, not one pair. (2) scutum small, PW <80µ, not >80µ. (3) PL > M, not PL < AM.
Leptotrombidium (Leptotrombidium) alpinum sp. nov. (figs. 10-14)
Host: Apodemus draco orestes and Ochotona thibetana thibetana.
Parasitope : Out ear.
Locality: Jianchuan County (26°28’N, 99°52’E), Yunnan, 1980. VI. 29.
Description and measurements: See text.
Diagnosis: The new species is close to L. (L.) tsushimaensis (Fujisaki, 1954), but differs in: (1) AM > PL > AL, not PL > AM > AL. (2) PSB/ASB 1/2, not 2/3. (3) humeral setae 65µ long, not 74µ. (4) dorsal setae arranged 2-10-...., not 2-3 (7, 9)-....
Leptotrombidium (Leptotrombidium) eothenomydis sp. nov. (figs. 15-19)
Host: Eothenomys miletus miletus.
Parasitope: Out ear.
Locality: Jianchuan County (26°28’N, 99°52’E), Yunnan, 1980. VII. 1.
Description and measurements: See text.
Diagnosis: The new species is close the to L. (L.) alpinum sp. nov., but is easily distinguished by the following characters: (1) the shape and dimensions of scutum, SB 29µ, not 37µ; PW 72µ, not 86µ. (2) PL>AM>AL, not AM>PL>AL. (3) galeal seta with 8-10 barbs, instead of 17-23 barbs. (4) dorsal setae 2-8(9)-.... =28-37 in number, not 2-10-....=36-43.
Leptotrombidium (Leptotrombidium) yongshengense sp. nov. (figs. 20-24)
Host: Tupaia belangeri chinevsis.
Parasitope: Around anus.
Locality: Yongsheng County (26°41’N, 100°43’E), Yunnan, 1961. IX. 18.
Description and measurements: See text.
Diagnosis: The new species is close to L. (L.) alpinum sp. nov., but differs in: (1) the shape and dimensions of scutum, AP 25µ, SB 31µ, AM 57µ, PL 50µ, not AP 21µ, SB 37µ, AM 70µ, PL 64µ. (2) galeal seta with 12-14 barbs, instead of 17-23 barbs. (3) HS 54µ, not 65µ.
