abstractThe preseat paper gives descriptions of seven new species of ehigger mites parasitic on rodents and bats from Yunnan. Type specimens are deposited in the Control and Research Institute of Epidemic Diseases of Yunnan Province.
1. Leptotrombidium (Leptotrombidium) hsui sp. nov. (figs. 1-5)
Host: Rattus rattus sladeni.
Location: Out ear.
Locality: Binchuan County (25°49’N, 100°32’E), Yunnan, 1980. IV. 15.
Description and measurements: See text.
Diagnosis: This new species is allied to L. (L.) longisetum Yu et al, 1982, but differs in: (1) PW 88 µ, not 101 µ; SB 34 µ, not 44 µ; AP 34 µ, not 28 µ. (2) IP>1000, not <950. (3) AMPL. (4) dorsal setae 39-43 in number, arranged 2-8-... , not 45-52 and 2-(9-11)-... It is also close to L. (L.) hanseni Traub et al., and L. (L.) mitchelli Nadchatram, 1970, but differs in: (1) the dimensions of scutum and IP. (2) dorsal setae 39-43 in number, not 34. (3) ventral setae 43-50 in number, not 34-36. (4) sensillae base with minute barbs, not nude.
2. Leptotrombidium (Leptotrombidium) qiui sp. nov. (figs. 6-10)
Host: Rhinolophus sp.
Location: Out ear.
Locality: Binchuan County, Yunnan, 1980. IV. 11.
Description and measurements: See text.
Diagnosis: The new species is allied to L. (L.) brinchanense Nadchatram et Upham, 1966, but differs in: (1) the shape and dimensions of scutum, PW/SD=1.8, not 1.4, (2) ventral setae 23-24 in number, not 34-38.
3. Leptotrombidium (Leptotrombidium) laojunshanense sp. nov.(figs. 11-14)
Host: Ochatona thibetana thibetana, Eothenomys miletus miletus, Apodemus latronum and A. chevrieri.
Location: Out ear.
Locality: Jianchuan County (26°28’N, 99°52’E), Yunnan, 1980. VII. 4.
Description and measurements: See text.
Diagnosis: This new species is close to L. (L.) irregulare Traub et Nadchatram, 1967, but differs in: (1) the shape and dimension of scutum, (2) AM>PL>AL, not PL=AM>AL, (3) ventral setae 60-69 in number, not 46-56. It is also close to L. (L.) toshiokai (Sasa et Jameson, 1954), but differs in the dimension of scutum and dorsal setae, AM>PL>AL.
4. Leptotrombidium (Leptotrombidium) rusticum sp. nov. (figs. 15-18)
Host: Eothenomys miletus miletus and Apodemus chevrieri.
Location: Out ear.
Locality: Xiaguan City (25°32’N, 100°14’E), Yunnan, 1963. III. 5.
Description and measurements: See text.
Diagnosis: This new species is allied to L. (L.) gongshanensis Yu et al, 1981, but differs in: (1) PL>AM>AL, not AM>PL>AL, (2) ventral setae 28-30 in number, not 22 - 25, (3) dorsal setae with dense and long branches, not few barbed.
5. Leptotrombidium (Leptotrombidium) spicanisetum sp. nov. (figs. 19 - 22)
Host: Rattus rattus sladeni.
Location: Out ear.
Locality: Lianghe County (24°49’N, 98°17’E), Yunnan, 1965. VII- IX.
Description and measurements: See text.
Diagnosis: This new species is allied to L. (L.) gongshanensis Yu et al., 1981, but differs in dorsal setae long and slender with shorter barbs as "spican" in shape, PL> AM>AL, branches more of sensillae.
6. Leptotrombidium (Leptotrombidium) wangi sp. nov. (figs. 23-27)
Host : Eothenomys custos, Ochotona thibetana thibetana and Apodemus chevrieri.
Location: Out ear.
Locality: Jianehuan County, Yunnan, 1980. VI. 28.
Description and measurements: See text.
Diagnosis: This new species is close to L. (L.) termurai (Sasa et al, 1951), but differs in the dimensions of scutum and IP. PL>AM>AL, not AM>PL>AL.
7. Ascoschoengastia (Laurentella) menghaiensis sp. nov. (figs. 28-31)
Host: Petaurista petaurista gunnanensis.
Location: Out ear.
Locality: Menghai County (21°56’N), 100°26’E), Yunnan, 1962, IX. 23.
Description and measurements: See text.
Diagnosis: This new species is allied to A. (L.) canus Domrow, 1962, but differs in the palpal setae formula b-N-bNb, and in the shape and dimensions of scutum.
