abstractThis paper describes two new species of Trombiculidae from Sichuan, China.
Ascoschoengastia nanjiangensis sp. nov. (figs. 1-6)
Idiosoma 350 µm × 265 µm. IP=710. Galeal setae nude. Palpal setae N.N.BNN+6B. Palpal claw 3-pronged. Scutum trapezoidal, AW 70, PW 90, SB 38, ASB 30, PSB 25, AP 25, AM 25, AL 28, PL 48, Eyes 2+2. Dorsal setae arranged as 2+8.2.6.5.5.5.2=35. Sternal setae 2.2. Ventral setae 29 in number. Legs 7.7.7, coxal setae 1.1.1, with 1 genuala on I and without genualae on II and III.
This new species having 1 genuala on leg I, no genualae on leg II and III, AW=70 µm, PW=90 µm, IP=710, DS=35, VS=29, is readily separable from other species of the genus Ascoschoengastia.
Holotype, larva, collected off Sciurotamias davidianus Milne-Edwards from Nanjiang County (32°20’N, 106°50’E), in July 1978. Specimen deposited in Health & Anti-Epidemic Station of Sichuan Province.
Leptotrombidum (Trombiculindus)heishuiense sp. nov. (figs. 7-12)
Idiosoma 463 µm × 343 µm. IP=713. Galeal setae branched. Palpal setae N.N.BNN+7B, Palpal claw 3-pronged, Scutum rectangle, PL and DS narrow willow-leaf-like. AW 77, PW 99, SB 41, ASB 31, PSB 16, AP 25, AM 68, AL 41, PL 60×8. Dorsal setae arranged 2+8.6.6.6.2=30. Sternal setae 2.2. Ventral setae 34 in number. Legs 7.7.7. Legs with specialized setae as figured.
This new species resembles L. (T.) yunnanus Wang et Yu, 1965, but with less dorsal setae and ventral setae. PL and DS narrow willow-leaf-like.
Hololype and 2 paratypes, larvae, collected off Rattus coxingi andersoni Thomas from Heishui County (32°05’N, 103°E), in July 1960. Specimens deposited in the Health & Anti-Epidemic Station of Sichuan Province.
