| abstract | In the present paper a new species of Pellonyssus from China is described and illustrated.
Pellonyssus nidi sp. nov. (figs. 1-6)
Holotype ♀, allotype ♂ and paratype 1 protonymph were collected in June 1987, off a sparrow nest with infantile birds, from Longchuan County (24.2° N, 97.9° E), Yunnan Province. The type specimens are deposited in the Department of Parasitology, Guiyang Medical College, Guizhou Province.
This new species is closely allied to Pellonyssus stenosternus (Wang, 1963), but the opisthonotal plate of the new species wider, the ratio of length to width being 1.09, and its anterior margin flat, that of the latter species narrower, its ratio being 2.01, and with concave anterior margin; the sternal plate of the new species somewhat longer, with prominent antero-lateral angle, and St1 longer, its length about 1/2 the length of St3, while that of the latter species shorter, without antero-lateral angle, and St1 very short, its length only 1/10 the length of St3; the peritreme of the new species longer, extending to anterior portion of coxa II, that of the latter species shorter, reaching posterior portion of coxa II only; the posterior end of the genito-ventral plate of the new species rounded, while that of latter species pointed. |
