abstractMites of the genus Aculops from Africa are revised and a key is presented for the 26 species recognized; their relationships to their hosts are described. The following new species are described: A. parvifoli, A. cneorum, A. longinychus, A. tomentosi, A. pretoriensis, A. repticolus, A. bolusanthi, A. febritheae, A. africanae, A. helichrysi, A. succiphagus, A. salviifoliae, A. kareae, A. sieberianae, A. silicolus, A. oxypagus, A. revoluti and A. elephantorrhiza.
A diagnosis and a review of host and distributional data are presented for each of the known species, namely A. zaheri Abou-Awad, A. lycopersici (Massee), A. nilotica Abou-Awad, A. maroccensis Keifer, A. malus Zaher & Abou-Awad, A. gutierrezi Keifer, A. acaciae (Ryke & Meyer) and A. baccaureae Farkas.
