abstractA new species of Proteremaeus, P. nebaikini, is described from Khabarovsk District, Soviet Far East, on the basis of adults. Evidence is presented for considering Sibiremaeus Ryabinin and Krivolutsky, 1975 as a junior synonym of Proteremaeus Piffl, 1965. A key is given to adults of the eight known species of Proteremaeus. Extant members of this genus are known only from the Palaearctic. Thus, a recently discovered fossil specimen of this genus from the late Tertiary, from Ellesmere Island, Canada has important biogeographic implications which are discussed.
