| abstract | A new species of Proteremaeus, P. nebaikini, is described from Khabarovsk District, Soviet Far East, on the basis of adults. Evidence is presented for considering Sibiremaeus Ryabinin and Krivolutsky, 1975 as a junior synonym of Proteremaeus Piffl, 1965. A key is given to adults of the eight known species of Proteremaeus. Extant members of this genus are known only from the Palaearctic. Thus, a recently discovered fossil specimen of this genus from the late Tertiary, from Ellesmere Island, Canada has important biogeographic implications which are discussed. |
