abstractThe present paper reports the first record of Gamasodes in China, and describes a new species of this genus.
Gamasodes sinicus sp. nov. (figs. 1-7):
Holotype deutonymph collected in June, 1978, by Tian Qing-yun, from a nest of Passer montanus (Linne), in Mt. Wutai (39.1° N, 113.6° E), Shanxi Province, deposited in the Department of Parasitology, Guiyang Medical College.
The new species closely resembles Gamasodes bispinosus (Halbert, 1915), but with following differences: 1) the new species with larger podonotal plate and bearing one more setal pair on the plate; 2) the new species with 24 setal pairs on the bared dorsum, while in the latter species with only 10 setal pairs; 3) the rectum of the new species with only one prong, that of the latter species with two more lateral prongs; 4) the new species with one more pair of jugular plates and one more setal pair on the bared venter.
