| abstract | This paper describes two new species of chigger mite from Jiangxi, China.
1. Leptotrombidium (Leptotrombidium) wugongensis sp. nov.(figs. 1-5)
Body white when alive, oval. Unengorged larvae 206-285×160-206µm; engorged larvae 701×584µm. Galeal setae plumose. Palpal setae formula N-N-B-N-B/7B. Palpal claw trifurcate. Scutum nearly retangular in shape, with few punctae on its surface, PW/SD=2, SB behind the PLs line, PL>>AM>AL. Sensillae filimentous, with 6-8 branches on distal 2/3 and nude on base 1/3. Standard measurements (in µm) given in table. Dorsal setae 35-40, arranged as 2-8-6-6-6-4-2-2. Ventral setae 40-46. Sternal setae 2/2. Coxal setae 1-1-1. Legs: I 240-256; II 223-240; III 244-272 µm. JP:738-758 (746). SIF=7B-B-3-2111.0000.
Holotype and 6 paratypes were collected off the ear of Eutamias sibiricus, in August 1981, from Wugongshan mountains, Jiangxi Province.
This new species is similar to Leptotrombidium (L.) hupeca Ma et Hsu, 1965, but differs in the body setae more in number and the different arrangement of dorsal setae, the shape of scutum, SB behind the PLs line, PL>>AM>AL and the number of IP.2.
Leptotrombidium (Leptotrombidium) lushanensls sp. nov. (figs. 6-10)
Body oval in shape. Idiosoma 377-403×264-307µm. Galeal setae plumose. Palpal setae formula N-N-B-N-N-/7B. Palpal claw trifurcate. Scutum samewhat rectangular, PW/SD=1.8. SB before the level of PLs, PL>>AM>AL, AP>PS. Sensillae filiform, without barbs at its base. Standard measurements (in µm) given in table. Dorsal setae 31-37, arranged as 2-8-8-6-6-3-2. Ventral setae 30-38. Sternal setae 2/2. Coxal setae 1-1-1. Legs: I 219-282; II 203-277; III 224-280 µm. IP:646-784(707). SIF=7B-B-3-2111.0000.
Holotype and 3 paratypes were collected off anus of the Apodemus agrarius, in August 1978, from Lushan mountains, Jiangxi Frovince.
This new species is closely similar to Leptotrombidium (L.) qujingensis Yu et al., 1981, but differs in the body setae less in number and their different formula of dorsal setae, the shape of scutum and the scutal anterior and posterior margin, less of distal branches of the sensillae. |
