| abstract | In this paper 2 new species and one new record of the genus Dermanyssus Duges, 1834 from China are described and figured. A key to Chinese species of Dermanyssus is appended.
Dermanyssus americanus Ewing, 1822
The first record in China. Specimens: 8 females. 3 were collected off Emberiza cioides Braunt on Feb. 2. 1983, from Yushe County (112°56ʼ E, 37°10ʼ N) Shanxi Province; 5 were collected in the nest of Passer montanus (Linne), on July 14. 1975, from Xingzhou County (112°45ʼ E, 38°27ʼ N) Shanxi Province. Emberiza cioides Braunt is a new record of host.
Dermanyssus brevirivulus sp. nov. (figs. 1-3)
Holotype ? and paratypes 29 ?? were collected off Galeride cristata leautungensis (Swinhoe), in May 1983, from Taiyuan City (37°54ʼ N, 112°29ʼ E) Shanxi Province. Holotype and 2 paratypes are deposited in the Department of Parasitology, Guiyang Medical College, the other paratypes deposited in the Department of Parasitology, Shanxi Medical College.
This new species resembles Dermanyssus brevis Ewing, 1936, but distingushed from the latter by: dorsal plate bearing 12 pairs of setae, F1 on the plate; dorsal plate without 2 pairs of oval, light spots near the posterior margin; posterior margin of sternal plate rather flat and posterior end of genito-ventral plate rather pointed; and postanal seta lacking.
Dermanyssus wutaiensis sp. nov. (figs. 4-5)
Holotype ? and paratypes 2 ?? were collected from a nest of Passer montanus (Linne), in June 1978, from Wutai County (39°02ʼ N, 113°35ʼ E) Shanxi Province. Holotype and one paratype are deposited in the Department of Parasitology, Guiyang Medical College, another paratype deposited in the Department of Parasitology, Shanxi Medical College.
This new species is similar to Dermanyssus transvaalensis Evans et Till, 1962, but with following distinguish characters: dorsal plate with anterior margin rather flat, lateral margin expanded behind the level of D5, and posterior end pointed; F3 off the dorsal plate and D7 on the plate; all the dorsal setae subequal in length; 2 pairs of platelets behind the dorsal plate, one anterio-lateral and the other posterio-lateral to D8; the largest pair of metapodal plates behind coxa IV; length of PA about 2/3 as that of Ad. |
