abstractThe present paper deals with the morphology and a new species of the genus Cheyletiella, of Cheyletiellidae.
Cheyletiella dengi sp. nov. (figs. 1-14)
Holotype ♀ and allotype ♂ off rabbits in 1985-1988 from Shihezi, Xinjiang Uigur Autonomous Region, China; paratypes, 19♀♀, 4♂♂, same as for holotype; all deposited in the Department of Animal Husbandry and Medicine, Shihezi Agricultural College, Xinjiang, China.
This new species resembles Cheyletiella furmani Smiley, 1970, but the setae on the palpal tarsi of C. dengi sp. nov. differs in each sex, whereas that of C. furmani has been reported to be the same in both sexes; the new species with 3 pairs of simple setae lateral to anal opening in males, whereas other species of the genus Cheylettiella with only 2 pairs of simple setae lateral to anal opening in males; the male aedeagus of the new species are long and curved, whereas the aedeagus of C. furmani is shorter and straight; the M-shaped peritreme of this new species is composed of 12-13 pairs of bivalve-like segments, whereas that of C. furmani is composed of 10-12 pairs of oval to elongate, sausage-shaped segments.
This species is named in honor of Prof. Deng Guo-fan (Teng Kuo-fan) of the Institute of Zoology, of the Academia Sinica, Beijing, China.
