abstractTwo new species of the genus Piona collected from Huaxi (26°2ʼ N, 106°6ʼ E), Guiyang, Guizhou Province, are described. All type specimens are deposited in the Department of Plant Protection, Guizhou Agricultural College.
Piona polyacetabula sp. nov. (fig. 1 A-E and fig. 3 A-B)
Length of body: ♂ 1016µm, ♀ 1386µm. length between anterior end of first coxae and posterior end of excretory pore 726µm (♂) and of genital field 792µm (♀). the number of genital acetabula on genital field (68-72 in male and 45-50 in female, on each side), number of swimming hairs on all legs and structure of the palp set of the present species well apart from all other known species of the genus Piona.
Holotype ♂, from a small pond (approximately 10m²) in Huaxi, Guiyang, Guizhou Province, 10. V. 1988. Allotype ♀, same data as holotype. Paratypes 2♂♂, same data as holotype; 4♀♀, 5♂♂, 12. V. 1988 and 2♀♀, 1♂, 20. VI. 1988, same place as holotype but in river.
Piona platyura sp. nov. (fig. 2 A-E and fig. 3 C-D)
Length of body: ♂ 957µm, ♀ 1419µm. Length between anterior end of first coxae and posterior end of excretory pore 495µm (♂), and of genital field 693µm (♀). The genital acetabula of this species (♂ 35-42 and ♀ 48 on each side) are less than those of P. polyacetabula sp. nov., but likely more than those of other known species of Piona (most of known species are less than 30 genital acetabula). The genital field extending laterally well beyond the posterior corners of the fourth coxae in both male and female which differs from P. polyacetabula sp. nov., The two new species also differ from each other noticeably in the structure of the fourth coxae in both sexes, of IV-L-4 in nale and of palp in female.
Holotype ♂, 12. V. 1988, from a river in Huaxi, Guiyang, Guizhou Province. Allotype ♀, same data as holotype. Paratypes 2♂♂, same data as holotype; 1♂, 20. VI. 1988, same place as holotype.
