| abstract | The present paper reports the first record of Scarabaspis in China, and describes a new species of this genus.
Scarabaspis goulouensis sp. nov. (figs. 1-8)
Holotype ♀, allotype ♂, paratpes 46♀♀, 5♂♂ and 5 deutonymphs were collected off beetles of Scarabaeidae, from Qinghai Province, among them 34♀♀ and 4♂♂ on Aug. 2, 1986, from Dari County (33.8° N 99.6° E), the others on Jun. 2, 7, 1987; Jul. 3, 1988 and May 1, 1991, from Maqin County (34.4° N, 100.1° E), all specimens are deposited in the Department of Parasitology, Medical School, Nanjng University.
The new species resembles Scarabaspis inexpectatus (Oudemans, 1903), but with following differences: 1) dorsal plate of new species more strongly reticulated; 2) sternal plate rather long and narrow, anterior margin convex, sternal setae longer and St1 on the anterior margin, while the plate of latter species wider and shorter, sternal setae shorter and St1 apart from the anterior margin; 3) width of anal plate equal to/or just over the length, Ad on the mid level of anus, while in the latter species the width of anal plate 1.5 times as its length, and Ad on the level of anterior margin of anus; 4) tectum of new species with flat base and bearing 3-5 teeth each side, while the base of the latter species concave and only bearing 3 teeth. |
