abstractThe oribatid mites from Gran Canaria (Canary islands) are studied for the first time. 661 specimens belonging to 20 species have been examined; three of these species resulted new for the Science, namely: Mirobelba grancanariae, Xenillus moyae and Canaribates chamobatoides; two new genera are erected: Mirobelba (family Belbidae) and Canaribates (family Haplozetidae). Some comments are made on certain morphological features of the specimens of Rhysotritia ardua (C.L. Koch, 1841), Xenillus tegeocranus (Hermann, 1804), Gustavia fusifer (C.L. Koch, 1841) and Oppia hesperidiana (Pérez-Iñigo, 1986) from Gran Canaria.
