| abstract | The authors examine the species belonging to the family Oribatellidae collected in Corsardinia.
There are 19 species of Oribatelldae, three of which are now described or the first time:
1) Oribatella ichnusae n.sp. is similar to O. brevipila. The most important diagnostic elements are the morphology of the rostrum (with a sagittal carena and two lateral cuticular blades), the spindle-shaped sensillus, the thin and short custodial tips and the incrassate 4c setae.
Known distribution: Sardinia
2) Oribatella nuragica n.sp. The most evident diagnostic character consists in the peculiar morphology of the rostrum with a large antero-lateral blade-like protuberance.
Known distribution: Sulcis, Iglesiente (Sardinia)
3) Ophidiotrichus corsicanus n.sp. is similar to O. oglasae. Important diagnostic characters of the new species are the smooth notogastral and tuberculate rostral microsculptures and the morphology of tutoria.
Known distribution: Corsica.
Besides, the authors examine on the basis of the new palaeogeographic reconstructions of the central-western Mediterranean area the problems of the Corsardinian colonization. They emphasize the great interest offered by the geographic distribution of some Oribatellidae, the high degree of the endemism in this territory and the diversity between the Oribatellidae of Corsica and those of Sardinia |
