abstractDemodex desmodi sp. nov. is described, in all life stages, from the Meibomian glands of the Vampire bat, Desmodus rotundus. Similar egg shape and holdfast structures in Meibomian gland inhabiting Demodex of other phyllostomid bats is noted. It is speculated that these adaptations represent synapomorphies. In the hosts examined, no obvious pathology was associated with the mites. The Meibomian glands of the Vampire bat are briefly described.
