| abstract | In 1988, the authors collected some chigger mites from Qinghai Province, China. After examination, it is an undescribed species of the genus Euschoengastia. Name of the new species is derived from the type locality. All specimens are deposited in the authorsʼ unit. All measurements are given in micrometres.
Euschoengastia qilianensis sp. nov. (Figs. 1-4)
Body color in life milky white, Idiosoma length 601 (483-675), width 492 (383-574). Basal 1/2 of galeal seta with 8-10 branches but from middle to apex is nude. SIF=6BS-B-6-2110-0000, Palpal setae formula B.B.BNB/6Bs, with obvious antero-lateral shoulder on scutum, Palpal claw 6 pronged, no punches on scutum, PW/AP=4.85, sensillae club--shaped. ALs/AM,PLs/SB,PL>AL>AM. Eyes 2+2. Dorsal setae 52-62 in number, arranged as 2.14.15(16).10(14).9(8).6(2).2=54(62). Ventral
setae 38 a 12 = 50 in number. Sternal setae 2.2. Coxal setae 1.1.2. Legs: I=280.8 II=281.5 III=303.5. lP=866
Holotype and 40 paratypes, collected off Ochotona cansus Lyon, Aug. 5, 1988, from Qilian County (38°25ʼ N, 99°35ʼ E), Qinghai Province.
This new species is resemble to Euschoengastia alpina Sasa et Jameson, 1954, but easily distinguishable by the following characters: SIF=6BS-B-6-2110-0000, GI=1/2b+1/2n, Sh=+++, fcx=1.1.2. |
