abstractLavoipierre (1946) erected the family Pediculochelidae and thought it presents the general feature of the family Tarsonemidae. Baker and Wharton (1952) included it in the Astigmata and this viewpoint was not followed until 1970. Krantz (1970) suggested that it belonged to Pachygnathoidea but with no supportive discussion. Norton, OConnor and Johnston (1983) based on a cladistic analysis, proposed that the family represents a sister-group of the Haplochthoniidae (Oribatida). In this paper, a new species is described. All measurements are given in µm.. Type specimen is deposited in the Department of Plant Protection, Southwest Agricultural University.
