abstractFemale, male and deutonymph of a new genus and species, Xenohalacarus longirostris, are described from Chilcott Islet in the Coral Sea. The new species, which is tentatively assigned to the Lohmannellinae, is characterized by extremely long palps and rostrum and by unusually long spines on the claws of the front legs. It is the second species recorded from Chilcott Islet that has no known congeners on the neighbouring Great Barrier Reef or elsewhere. A possible endemism of the new taxa is discussed.
