| abstract | A systematic review of all currently recognized genera and species of the Rhytidelasma generic group (Pterolichidae: Pterolichinae) representing specific ectoparasites of parrots Psittaciformes is presented. Four new genera are established within the generic group: Cacatolichus gen. nov. with the type species Pterolichus (Pseudalloptes) spathuliger; Neorhytidelasma gen. nov. with the type species Rhytidelasma cornigera; Kakapolichus gen. nov., with the type species Kakapolichus strigopis sp. nov. from the Kakapo Strigops harboptilus; Psittrichobius gen. nov. with the type species Psittrichobius eclectus sp. nov. from the Pesquetʼs Parrot Psittrichas fulgidus. Diagnosis of the genus Rhytidelasma is redefined. Two new species belonging to this genus are described from psittacids of the Old World: Rhytidelasma aprosmictis sp. nov. from the Red-winged Parrot Aprosmictis erythroptesus and R. lanceolata sp. nov. from the Masked Shining Parrot Prosopeia personata. According to the results of the taxonomic review, the Rhytidelasma generic group now includes 33 species and 9 genera. Identification keys for all genera and species of the generic group are presented. Currently known host-parasite associations of the Rhytidelasma generic group are briefly analysed. It is concluded that this group of feather mites demonstrates obvious traces of coevolutionary relationships with their hosts. |
