abstractThis paper describes adults ofPiona lapointei n. sp., the first species of water mite reported from the Hawaiian Islands. The species appears to have become established in artificial lentic freshwater habitats on Hawaii and Oahu, possibly in association with introduced ornamental water plants originally imported from South America where its nearest known relatives occur.
