| abstract | Species of mites inhabiting leaves of rose plants, intercrops, weeds and border plants are listed, as well as those in the litter and mulching material on rose beds, mainly from the provinces of Benguet and Laguna on Luzon Is., Philippines. The list includes 6 species of spider mites, 3 false spider mites among the phytophagous forms on roses, and 1 acarid on the onion intercrop; 34 gamasid and 13 actinedid predators, of which the families Phytoseiidae and Ascidae, including 10 species each, are most diverse; 3 acaridid and at least 32 oribatid detritivores and 9 with uncertain feeding habits. The oribatid mite, Leptocepheus rosaeus Corpuz-Raros (Otocepheidae) is described as new to science, and Phalacrozetes sinatus Aoki is recorded as new to the Philippines. Two predatory mites are also reported as new records : Rhabdocarpus consanguineus (Oudemons and Voigts) (Parasitidae), and Platyseius mollicomus (Berlese)(Ascidae). The phytophagous mites; new species and new records of predators and detritivores are described and illustrated. |
