abstractA list of 89 soil-inhabiting mites in 68 genera, 32 families and 3 suborders is given based on a prtial taxonomic study of collections obtained in 2003-2004from Polillo Island, Philippines. The list includes 3 species of Phytoseiidae and 1 species of Laelapidae in the suborder Gamasida, 13 species of Cunaxidae in the suborder Actinedida, and 73 species in 29 families of the suborder Oribatida. Two oribatids, Dolicheremaeus eusebioi (Otocepheidae) and Oxyamerus polilloensis (Oxyameridae) are described as new species. Except for one species of Phytoseiidae whose male was also discovered from Polillo, all are new records for the island.
