abstractA collection of Varroa jacobsoni Oudemans from the nest of Apis cerana from Nepal yielded a new species, Varroa underwoodi. Descriptions are given for deutonymph, adult male and female. Characters that readily distinguish the new species from V. jacobsoni are the much smaller size of the body and the long female lateral marginal setae radiating outward. The mites presumably feed on bee brood and are capable of becoming a pest of honeybees.
