| abstract | A new species of ptyctimous mites, Austrophthiracarus nimius sp. nov., shows pletrotrichy of notogastral and ano-adanal plates and especially pletrotrichy of prodorsum. The latter is a unique feature for the first time reported for a species of ptyctimous mites. The majority of the species of Austrophthiracarus Balogh & Mahunka from Australian Region are characterised by neotrichy of notogastral and adanal setae; however, the new species has the highest reported number of notogastral setae (40–45 pairs). |
