abstractDorsipes balli spec.nov. (Acari: Podapolipidae), subelytral parasite of Carabus taedatus Fabricius (Coleoptera: Carabidae), is described from Western United States and Canada. Species in the dorsipes group have putative apomorphies for adult females (1) ambulacra I claws small, (2) coxae III setae 3a absent, (3) tarsi II solenidia omega absent, (4) setae v1 reduced and the plesiomorphic character, two pairs of setae on plate EF. Dorsipes balli is compared with four species from Europe and Asia in the dorsipes group, all parasites of carabid beetles in the genus Carabus. Revised keys to groups and species of the group dorsipes are presented.
