abstractThe genus Lophodispus Kurosa, 1972 (Acari: Heterostigmata: Scutacaridae) is recorded from Iran for the first time, and a new species Lophodispus tapinoma Sobhi and Hajiqanbar sp. nov. associated with ants of the genus Tapinoma Förster, 1855 (Hymenoptera: Formicidae) is described and illustrated from Meshgin shahr, Ardebil province, northwestern Iran. It is the first record of an association between ants of the genus Tapinoma and Lophodispus mites. The new species is characterized by having three pairs of pseudanal setae and setae 2b seta-like, barbed. Moreover, the host range of the genus is reviewed, and a key to world species of the genus Lophodispus is provided.
