abstractA new species of oribatid mites, Scheloribates (Hemileius) stefanetfranzorum sp. n., is described from the topsoil and leaf litter of a primary evergreen lowland rainforest of Peruvian Amazonia. This species differs from S. (H.) microclava (Hammer 1961), also from the Neotropical Region, by the presence of a strong median ridge on the prodorsum and a dorsomedial position of notogastral saccules S1. A supplementary description of S. (H.) major (Mahunka 1985) is presented, based on material from the Antilles.
