| abstract | Six species of the genus Scapheremaeus from China are reported in the paper, among which five species are described as new to science, one species is recorded for the first time from China. The number and setation of notogastral setae of Scapheremaeus are also remarked in the paper. Type specimens are deposited in the Institute of Zoology, the Chinese Academy of Sciences.
1 Scapheremaeus retestriatus sp. nov. (Fig.1) Length 420 µm, width 233 µm. Lamella with long and strong cuspis and weak translamella. Notogaster divided into meddle field and marginal zone, bearing 5 and 10 pairs of setae respectively. Humeral region having a slightly hook like process directed antero-laterally. Middle field of notogaster showing a pattern of reticulation, but marginal zone bearing irregular short ridges. Holotype (W 89 68,slide),24. V.1989, Liancheng (25°N,116°E), Fujian Province, ex litter. This new species is distinguishable from the known species of the genus Scapheremaeus by the presence of developed cuspis on prodorsum, hook like humeral process on notogaster. and distinct pattern on notogastral surface.
2 Scapheremaeus uncinatus sp. nov. (Fig.2) Length 556?1(532?8?579?4)???m;width 303(279?7?326?3)???m.Lamella narrow, a weak translamella connecting the base of cuspis which being long, curved inward. Humeral region having sharp pointed, hook like process. The surface of notogaster, both middle field and marginal zone, showing irregular netlike sculpture. There are 10 pairs of short, blunt notogastral setae, arising from small apophyses.?Holotype (?3,slide),29.VII.1983,from wood chips under bark. Paratype 1(? 6, slide),from moss on bark. All specimens collected from Mt. Wuyi(26°N,116°E)in Fujian Province.?This new species is similar to ?S.pundamiliaensis? Engelbrecht (South Africa) in having ten pairs of notogastral setae, hook like humeral process and netlike sculpture of notogaster, but it easily distinguished from the latter by the lamella with developed cuspis and club instead of apical dilating notogastral setae.?3 ?Scapheremaeus quadrireticulatus? sp. nov. (Fig.3)?Length ?439?6???m,? width ?246???m.? The narrow lamella connecting with a translamella, forming a conical cuspis forward. Humeral region slightly project laterally. The surface of notogaster with irregular rugae, but forming four reticulations consisted of many small polygonal sculpture on middle field. With 5 pairs of setae on middle field and 10 pairs of setae on marginal zone. All notogastral setae small, blunt apically.?Holotype (W?93?40,slide),VIII.1993,Beijing, ?ex? litter.?This new species differs from all its known congener in the very peculiar sculpture on notogaster.?4 ?Scapheremaeus bituberculatus? sp. nov. (Fig.4)?Length ?353???m,? width ?166?5???m.? Lamella narrow, connecting with a faint translamella. Lamella setae and interlamella setae indiscernible. With a pair of tubercle, bearing longitudinal wrinkles, located laterad to lamella, deep in color. Humeral region forming a hook like process curved ventrad. Middle field indistinctly separated from marginal zone, only with “” shaped ridge on anterior part of notogaster. The surface of notogaster covered with alveoli. With 14 pairs of notogastral setae. only 3 pairs of setae on posterior margin discernible, the others very tiny.?Holotype (W?89?68,slide), 24.V.1989, Liancheng (Mt. Meihua, 25?7°E,116?7°N) in Fujian Province, ?ex? litter.?The new species belongs to a group constituted with ?S.sinuosus ? Aoki, 1964(Laysan Is. in Hawaii),?S.quadrilineatus? Mahunka,1978(Mauritius), ?S.emarginatus? Hammer, 1966(New Zealand), ?S. striatomarginatus? Hammer, 1978(Java), ?S.cornutus? Balogh,1958(Ethiopia),?S.argentinensis? Trave ?et? Fernandez, 1986(Argentina) and ?S.hungarorum? Mahunka, 1986 (Tanzania). This group differs from other described species in absence of distinct border between middle field and marginal zone, but this new species is distinguishable from above species |
