abstractThe genus Cyrtolaelaps Berl., 1887 (sen. lat.) is regarded by the author as consisting of the subgenera Cyrtolaelaps Berl., Gamasellus Berl., Digamasellus Berl., Euryparasitus Oudmns. and Gamaselliphis Ryke. The essential data of all known species of the subgenus Cyrtolaelaps are given, the species C. (C.) mucronatus (G. & R. Can.) and aster (Berl.) being figured.
Of the subgenus Gamasellus the essential data of the known species are given and 13 new species are described and figured. The new species are: C. (C.) deepdalensis, leggetti, shongweniensis, hluhluwensis, drakensbergensis, natalensis, paranatalensis, macrosetosus, knysnaensis, neotasmanicus, grahami, darglensis and nkandhlaensis. Known species also figured are: C. (C.) falciger (G. & R. Can.), nepotulus Berl., pyriformis Berl., tetrastigma Berl., mitigatus Berl., quadrisigillatus Berl. and succinctus Berl. Laelogamaus Berl. is regarded as a synonym of Gamasellus.
A key to the South African speies of Gamasellus is given.
