abstractThree new species of Rhinopygmephorus (Acari: Neopygmephoridae) are described. Rhinopygmephorus africanus sp. nov. is phoretic on Lipotriches andrei and L. hylaeoides in Côte dʼIvoire and South Africa, respectively, Rh. brasiliensis sp. nov. is phoretic on Ariphanarthra palpalis in Brazil, and Rh. mexicanus sp. nov. is phoretic on Caenaugochlora inermis in Mexico. Fungal spore transfer by Rh. africanus sp. nov. is recorded for the first time in the family Neopygmephoridae. A key to Rhinopygmephorus species is also provided. Mites of the genus Rhinopygmephorus are recorded from Africa, North and South America for the first time.
