abstractMites inhabiting cultivated mushroom grown in a mushroom farm, located at Sharkeia province, Egypt and those occurring with mushroom bedding compost of the species, Pholiota aegenita from Italy (Az. AGR, PAOLO COSTA, PRODUZIONE MICELLO E FUNGHI, 35020 CARRARA S. GIORGIO ’PD’ ), were surveyed in 1993.
The survey revealed the occurrence of thirteen species of mites belonging to eleven genera, eight families and three suborders. Of these a new species, Pygmephotus pholiotai n. sp. (Fam. Pygmephoridea) is described and illustrated. In addition, two tarsonemin species namely, Pygmephorus racki Mahunka (Fam. Pygmephoridea) and Ununguitarsonemus peacocki Smiley and Moser (Fam. Tarsonmidae), are considered new records for the mite fauna of Egypt.
